I'm a huge fan of everything Local Motors. I love the Rally Fighter and all that it stands for, so I was excited when they announced a design challenge that was aimed at awesome people like myself.
The Active Lifestyle Vehicle is for the outdoor enthusiast type. It should be rugged, be able to haul all of your crap, and should, well, be badass.
I think the challenge went on for about two months, and this weekend they announced the winners. Some pretty cool vehicles that would fit well into my fleet.
This dude won, and looks sweet:
Go to their site for the round up of winners:

My personal favorite was this box full of goodness:
Kind of a modern Unimog. More here: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Make it Local Motors, and I will throw money at you!

Please, do not call it the Climax, unless it is a 1990's Geo.

The design is cool but that is basically what the current rally fighter is. I dont know why they would pick that as the winner as there isnt really anything that different about it. Now the yellow truck with the endless seating and HUGE storage space...that is cool and I would drive it alot.

That van is sweet. Some stuff that needs to be sorted out, like panel strength to weight, and how to fit in I6 into the middle of something so narrow...and where to source a good i6...but I love the idea behind it. if it were me though, I would ditch the independent suspension and go full coil sprung live axles for simplicity and weight rating, plus it helps lower the already high CG by putting the heavy running gear down low.

I'd like to see a rally fighter shooting brake, myself.

Agree with the live axles. Would add bigger tires just to cancel any gain you got just there.
I'm a big fan of a box because they really maximize the space. Being able to relatively quickly go from roof to convertible is something special.

But on the plus side, it'd be feasible to produce, since they've already come close to it.

yeah, but i think thats kinda lazy in comparison to say the third place winner that had all the crazy ass tent and pop out stuff. I mean sure its possible cuz they just have to do different panel work on a rally fighter. The other car would require a ground up invention that would create one of the most epic outdoors vehicles ever!!! I mean can you imagine having a work space and camping space pop out of your car. It would be the ultimate support vehicle for everything from rally to cycle touring.... not to mention great for family camping
